Home furnishings retailer West Elm announced that it will open a new retail store in Mill Valley, California on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 10am. Located in The Strawberry Village shopping center, the 10,000 square foot store will open with the brand’s diverse mix of furniture, home décor, gifts and artist collaborations. The store will also feature an assortment of local, handcrafted products sourced through Etsy that include jewelry, wall art, kitchen linens, coasters and candles.

To celebrate the opening, West Elm collaborated with Mill Valley artist Jessica Taich to create a limited edition tote bag . West Elm discovered Jessica through its current collaboration with Bay Area-based Minted. The Minted collaboration allows West Elm to sell framed artwork from 25 members of Minted’s global community of independent designers, four of whom are Bay Area residents.

“West Elm is committed to working with artisan groups around the world and in the local communities where our stores are based,” said Jim Brett, president of West Elm. “Customers that shop at the Mill Valley store will find artisan handcrafted items from Marin County, the Bay Area and around the world.”

Similar to other West Elm locations, the Mill Valley store will be a creative, community-driven space with products and services designed to help customers discover their personal style at home.

The store will feature a Living Wall inspired by Marin County’s redwood forests and a juice bar in collaboration with popular local juice purveyor, Urban Remedy. On opening day, all flooring and tabletop items will be 20% off and customers will be able to shop the brand’s Holiday assortment which includes décor and gifts in three diverse collections: Enchanted Forest, Snow Drift and New Heritage.

Additional store opening activities and events include a sweepstakes* that offers residents of the Mill Valley area a chance to win a $1,000 gift card and an invitation to the opening celebration party taking place on the evening of November 6. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Marin County’s Bridge the Gap, a comprehensive local afterschool learning program.
