The development of production and processing technologies and dissemination to producers are keys to the long run sustainability of the world cotton industry.

There is always a need to improve technologies currently available and to explore new avenues and ideas for improving efficiency.

The ICAC contributes to cotton technology development and dissemination through a Research Associate Program conducted every year at the ICAC headquarters in Washington DC and in a field location.

Programs are conducted in alternate years on topics related to economics and marketing and production technology. Each year, member governments of ICAC support about 15 researchers to spend 10 days in the United States to participate in the program.

The 2014 ICAC Research Associate Program will be conducted from May 4-11, 2014 on the subject of “Technology Innovations for Improving Cotton Productivity."

The ICAC provides financial support to the Research Associates nominated by governments and approved by the Standing Committee. Researchers from non-member governments of the ICAC can participate in the program on a tuition basis.

The last date to apply for the Program is December 15, 2013. Names will be finalized by the ICAC in January 2014, giving ample time for candidates to process their visa requirements. Additional information on the 2014 Program can be requested from the ICAC Secretariat.
