Arkema partakes in Chinacoat 2013 trade show

The trade fair will also be an opportunity for Arkema to celebrate with its customers the successful startup of its new polymer emulsion production plant on its Changshu site in China.

Arkema’s Coating Solutions segment already runs production facilities in China through its two subsidiaries: Sartomer, which produces photocure resins on the Nansha site, and Coatex, which operates a rheology additives plant on the Changshu site.

Since end October, Arkema has also been producing on Changshu site polymer emulsions used as binders for waterborne paints. Thanks to this new 60,000 ton/p.a. plant, Arkema now produces its entire coating product offering on three continents - Europe, North America and Asia.

With the technical support of the its R&D center in Changshu opened in 2013, Arkema will be able to provide technological solutions that are aptly suited to the specifics of customers in Asia, in particular China, a country which has become the world’s leading consumer of coatings with 10 to 15% anticipated annual growth in the sector.

Through this stronger industrial presence in China, Arkema confirms its leadership in materials for the Coatings industry, and illustrates its ambition to further expand in Asia and in fast-growing countries, where the Group aims to achieve 30% of its sales by 2016.

Arkema’s product range for industrial coatings, architectural coatings, decorative paints, specialty coatings and adhesives covers a wide spectrum of resins and additives derived from highly diverse chemistries and technologies.

It is this specific feature that helps provide Arkema’s customers with a customized offering based on their geographic location and their application markets, while fulfilling the requirements of environmentally sound chemistry, developed from renewable raw materials (vegetable oils).

Arkema’s Coatings portfolio is unique in the market through a diversified choice of materials and technologies - acrylic monomers, acrylic emulsions for waterborne paints, polyester and alkyd resins for solvent-based paints, polyester powder resins, ultra high solid content resins, PVDF fluorinated polymers for long-lasting exterior coatings, rheology additives (dispersants, thickeners) from Coatex, rheology additives for solvent-based industrial coatings, and finally specialty acrylate and methacrylate resins from Sartomer - covers the entire spectrum of requirements for both industrial and decorative coatings.

The Coatings Solutions segment activity now accounts for 34% of Arkema’s sales, ranking the Group in 3rd place in the world among suppliers of materials and technologies for paint and coating formulators.
