First two months of this year saw footwear exports from Vietnam to Taiwan and Hong Kong in diverse trends, sources from Ministry of Trade stated.

During this period, exports to Taiwan slumped at 26.61 percent compared with same period 2005, worth US $ 3.92 million.

This is largely due to a sharp decrease of leather shoes exports to the market that was marked down 53 percent, from same period of 2005, worth $58,464,000, explained sources.

Meanwhile, the same figures at Hong Kong market presented a 63.06 percent rise over 2005 results, recording profits worth $5.53 million with main items being sports shoes, leather shoes and knitting – capped shoes.

Vietnam has displaced to Hong Kong to attain third position behind China and Italy as the biggest footwear exporting countries to the US.

Industry experts opine that it will not take long for the country to occupy the second position in the US markets.
