Sri Lanka’s Colombo although currently not known as a fashion capital internationally, is on the way of earning the status, with the progress of the designers and the fashion industry of the city, said HSBC Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) president Ajai V Singh during a recent press conference to announce the 11th edition of the CFW.

Emerging directions in the fashion world and new and upcoming talented designers could help capture for Sri Lanka, an identity, that could command attention from the international fashion world, he added.

At the press conference, Mr. Singh said that over the years CFW has managed to bring to notice a fashion industry brimming with improving designer talent, with better standards and higher academic excellence, having the potential to soon catapult Colombo city as a fashion capital, in the Pacific region.

The essence of CFW lies in promoting Sri Lankan talent within the Sri Lankan community, through creating a sense of pride in wearing a local label, he added.

Mr. Singh said that every year CFW is getting closer to creating a dynamic fashion industry in the country, which is recognized internationally, and while staying true to its objective, each year we aim to add new aspects to enhance the industry and think of innovative ways of including the prospects of fashion design in Sri Lanka as well as nurture new talent.

The 11th edition of CFW is scheduled to be held from February 6 to 8, 2014. A total of 30 globally renowned and nationally acclaimed Sri Lankan designers would be showcasing their creations during the event.

This year, the Bright Sparks show, which is scheduled to held from February 3 to 5, prior to the main event, would have a total of nine fashion designing students from four institutes—University of Moratuwa, Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT), Academy of Design (AOD) and Raffles Design Institute, showcasing their creations.
