Japan-based Nippon Shokubai is planning to shut one of its two Ethylene Oxide (EO) plants at Kawasaki in August this year.

“The Chidori plant at Kawasaki will be shut for maintenance from August 14, 2014 to end of September this year,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

However, there are no plans for maintenance shutdown at Ukishima plant this year.

“At present, both the Ukishima and Chidori EO plants at Kawasaki are running at 100 percent production capacity,” informed the official.

The Ukishima and the Chidori plants have a capacity to produce 160,000 mt/year and 165,000 mt/year of EO, respectively.

In addition to EO, these plants produce Ethylene Glycol (EG) and other derivatives like Ethanolamines (EA) and Glycol Ether (GE).

The two plants have a combined capacity to produce 150,000 mt/year of Monoethylene Glycol (MEG).
