Schiaparelli returns to haute couture after 60 years

After a long sixty-year hiatus, the house of Schiaparelli, founded by late Italian fashion designer and Coco Chanel contemporary Elsa Schiaparelli, finally returned to haute couture with an eclectic show staged on the second day of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.

Designed by the just resuscitated Parisian brand’s new creative helm Marco Zanini, the line presented an array of hand-crafted graceful dresses meant for the authentic, high-end couture loving modern women.

Based on a delicious confectionary palette of almond green, rain-washed sky blue and strawberry tones, the collection included loose-fit pants with tribal warrior patterns, tailored tuxedo jackets with feather lining, bridal pantsuits and a polka dotted, ruffled chiffon T-shirt dress decorated with hand-cut velvet leaves and beaded stripes.

French luxury house Christian Dior once again wove magic with its sumptuous Spring/Summer 2014 collection, spiked with a hint of modernity. Created under the guidance of the brand’s artistic director of Belgian origin Raf Simons, the range was made from light fabrics, cut softly into relaxed breezy clean shapes.

Decorated with embroidered 3-D-like jewel-sewn patterns of circle, eye and heart, the line was enhanced with tone-on-tone graphics in white, black and navy tones.

The most standout pieces were an asymmetric A-line feathery strapless dress with half-hem flounce, a half-apron attached party dress, chic tailored jumpsuits and a variety of matching trouser-and-top ensembles.
