The renowned guest label was part of iD in 2009, and joins the fashion week’s tradition of showcasing high profile New Zealand fashion designers, which in the past has included Zambesi, Liz Mitchell, Hailwood, Cybèle and last year’s luxury women’s wear designer Yvonne Bennetti.
WORLD was founded in 1989 by designers Denise L’Estrange-Corbet and Francis Hooper and is now a leading international fashion label, selling in Australia, the US, UK, Asia and Europe and has shown at London, Paris, Hong Kong and Singapore fashion weeks. WORLD’s collection in 2009 ‘No depression in New Zealand’ amazed iD crowds, featuring more than $100,000 worth of Swarovski crystals.
The new WORLD collection - ‘Penny wise, pound foolish’ – will be revealed at iD’s 15th anniversary Friday and Saturday night catwalk shows at the historic Dunedin Railway Station just after it has been seen at Paris Fashion Week.
WORLD Creative Director and designer Francis Hooper, who was recently honoured in the New Year’s New Zealand Order of Merit list, is thrilled to be back and part of iD.
“iD Fashion Week is the most characterful and interesting fashion week that we have ever been a part of! The atmosphere is electric and the audience, just the best.”
Hooper says he is excited and honoured to be once again on the panel judging the iD International Emerging Designer Awards, describing the Awards as “the most important young designers’ showcase and awards in the Southern Hemisphere”.
iD Dunedin Fashion Week committee chair Susie Staley says audiences will be impressed by the opportunity to glimpse a collection coming straight to iD from Paris as WORLD reveals what it sees as the future of high-end New Zealand fashion.
“We’re incredibly honoured to be part of WORLD’s revelation and can’t wait to see what Francis and Denise have created.”
