The snow-peaked mountains and untamed natural beauty of Tibet played as the source of inspiration behind Bibhu Mohapatra’s opening show on the penultimate day of ongoing Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

The 41-year-old award-winning Indian designer showcased a line, meant for contemporary global women, made using chiffon, cashmere, beaded organza, satin and crepe. Decorated with rich embroidery and jacquard panels, the 41-piece range featured mink vests, alligator coats, cropped bombers, pencil skirts, shift dresses and strapless ball gowns.

American talent Michael Kors presented a very earthy collection, replete with fine intricate details. Made from silk, georgette, suede and fur, the Fall/Winter 2014 line included tie-and-dye mink coats, comfy sweat pants, culottes, belted jackets, Aran pullover, feathery fit and flare dresses as well as peasant style blouses and skirts.

Nanette Lepore, known for her active involvement in promoting America-made fashions, presented a line fully designed and manufactured in New York. Infused with a bohemian touch, the pieces were crafted with net, warm flannel and alpaca wool. The red, violet and smoky rose hued collection showcased sheer beaded tops, turtleneck sweaters, knitted parkas, ponchos and geometric print coats and dresses.

American fashion designer Betsey Johnson harked back to the 1970s and 80s disco era for her latest bold catwalk presentation. Decorated with shimmering sequins, the ensembles included faux fur coats, jumpsuits, a hand gun printed bright yellow shirt and several mesh, mini and shirt dresses.
