A rare opportunity to view contemporary textile and clothing designs, inspired from India’s well-known traditional arts and crafts, is on display at the ‘Made In ... India: Samskara’ exhibit, currently going on in New Delhi.

With a primary aim to re-interpret old Indian crafts into more modern useful artefacts, the exhibition features more than 100 designs, ranging from fabric and fashion to other lifestyle accessories, handmade by 23 designers.

Some of the displayed pieces include bedding set from Abraham and Thakore, a white satin lattice work cushion by Pankaj and Nidhi, textile designs by Rasa and Aneeth Arora, a Kashmiri Kani shawl woven by label Ezma and local weavers as well as some fashion creations from Gaurav Gupta.

Scheduled to run through February 28, 2014, the event, curated by Fashion Design Council of India president Sunil Sethi, also showcases decorative objects, floor coverings, furniture and other luxury products.

After New Delhi, the exhibit would travel to Japan and later the displayed pieces will be auctioned at Milan World Expo 2015. The proceeds from the sale will go to the Young Talent Award fund, which supports young emerging artists from across the globe.

The event is organized by international philanthropic foundation Be Open, which is a creative think tank engaged in the task of promoting and supporting handmade crafts from around the world.
