Young designers' platform EGO caps off Madrid Fashion Week

The five-day-long Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid wrapped up with the latest Fall/Winter 2014 catwalk presentations from its special line up of emerging designers’ promotional initiative EGO.

Organized by the event’s official organizing body IFEMA, the concept showcased creations from the up and coming stars like María Glück, Miguel Alex, Lady Cacahuete, Rafael J. Cameselle and María Clé Leal.

Leandro Cano, the 30-year-old winner of the Samsung Ego Innovation Project design competition, opened the day with a six-piece range made from leather, latex and feathers. Mixing technology with couture like cuts, the collection featured hand painted skirts, dresses and overalls.

Designer duo María Clè Leal and Patricia Blázquez Morales featured a line of cotton, gauze, elasticised mesh, wool, satin and leather garments. Incorporated with pure and simple lines, the maroon, navy blue, black and white coloured range was decorated with fringed beading, embroidery, dots and quilted geometric shapes.

Veronika Vimpelova drew inspiration from the history of Czech Republic for her glass bead embroidered collection, Forgotten Stories from a Small Town in the Middle of Nowhere. Made from heavy wool and soft shimmering yards of silk, the menswear and womenswear pieces included military coats, elegant dresses and printed traditional cotton shirts.

Nostromo, the commercial towing spaceship from the 1979 British-American science-fiction horror film Alien, played as muse behind Leyre Valiente’s new collection comprising of futuristic clothes. Replete with asymmetrical silhouettes and quilted fabrics, the ensembles included neoprene jackets and alien printed gowns in tones of black and navy blue.
