Famous international cities and cultures played as muses behind some of the Indian designers’ latest Summer/Resort 2014 catwalk presentations showcased at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week (LFW).

Inspired from the romantic vibes of the French capital, designer Archana Kochhar created her Paris Amour line. Adorned with digitally printed Pop Art Paris map, Eiffel Tower and spring season bloom images, the Indo-western range included short umbrella skirts, crisp shirts, kaftans, sexy slit gowns, draped dhoti sarees, peplum chemises, lehengas and suspender skirts.

The collection’s menswear ensembles included ombré black and white shaded kurtas, horizontal striped bundgalas, asymmetrical printed bundis, striped jackets and baggy salwars.

Unlike Kochhar’s Parisian mood, designer Ashdeen Lilaowala chose to float towards the eastern part of the globe for her Orient Express collection, inspired from the first-ever Chinese American movie star Anna May Wong.

Replete with strong retro oriental glamour accents, the collection featured shimmering body-con versions of the traditional Chinese cheongsams, embroidered ecru sheaths, bubble dresses with 3D roses, Chinese Gara embellished cholis, and gold lace saree and mandarin collar blouse combos in tones of fuchsia, orange, black and ruby red.

While America is busy celebrating the 40th anniversary of Diane von Furstenberg’s iconic wrap dress, the current edition of LFW also saw the Indian version of the legendary timeless costume showcased by designer Anushka Khanna. The collection featured an exquisite array of jazzy wrap dresses made from woven and knitted lame, strappy beaded tube dresses, silver embroidered shifts, two toned kimonos, metallic skirts, gold biker jackets and khaki jersey gowns.
