Swedish delegates visit IJSG for investment in jute sector

A three member’s team from Sweden visited the IJSG secretariat on March 11, 2014.  The visit was a part of their series of meetings with the players of the jute sector to know the existing status with a target to invest in this sector. 
 
The Secretary General of IJSG Mr Bhupendra Singh welcomed the guests and critically discussed the products that can be produced by jute and their future market. He also discussed about the bottle necks that are hindering the development of this sector, on answering the question of Josefin Lassbo, Innovation designer, Jute Borg. Mr Jonas Brandstrom, Honorary Counsul of Bangladesh suggested about the empowerment of rural woman through jute products.  
 
The delegates bought some samples of specific composites, and they expressed their interest to invest in the jute sector specially producing bio-composites from jute. MS Chirstiana Ostergren, gives the example of current Swedish market of jute products; and pointed out that most of the Swedish do not know about jute and its eco-friendliness. 
 
The people of the Sweden are more conscious about the environment there is a very good scope for marketing biodegradable jute products, she added.  The delegates also visited the Display centre and Library and Resource centre of IJSG with keen interest.
 
Mr Mahbub Ullah, Executive Secretary, Dr Chandan Kumar Saha, Project and Operations Officer and Mr ATM Jahanagir Alam, Project Assistant, IJSG were also present in the meeting.
