Sewing thread maker A&E releases new sustainability report

American & Efird - (A&E) the largest U.S. manufacturer and the world's second-largest manufacturer and distributor of premium quality industrial and consumer sewing thread, embroidery thread and technical textiles, announced the release of its transparent 2013-2014 Sustainability Report. The report demonstrates A&E's leadership in resource sustainability, as well as, humanitarian work and employee wellness.

A&E carries out its mission of sustainability through environmentally conscious corporate actions, and numerous contributions to the communities in which it operates.

The 2013-2014 Sustainability Report reveals that A&E has made great progress in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as, water and energy conservation over the last 7 years.

Global Carbon Footprint:
-A&E achieved 17% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2006

Water Conservation:
-32% reduction in global water consumption since 2006

Energy Conservation:
-A&E saved 99 million kilowatt hours since 2006

Sustainable Packing, Recycling & Waste Reduction:
-A&E Lanka (Sri Lanka) achieved Zero Waste to Landfill. 'Zero Landfill Waste' is the goal for all A&E facilities.

A&E has continued to demonstrate leadership in employee safety and wellness. The company was proud to be recognized as one of America's 16 Safest Companies 2013 by EHS Today Magazine. Industrial manufacturing uses material that can pose environment health or safety risks. A&E adheres to the strictest global guidelines for all fibers, dyes, chemical and lubricants - constantly monitoring for updates.

In the USA, A&E also partners with the Wellness Coalition of America (WCA) to introduce and implement health and wellness initiatives, which assist associates in maintaining and improving personal and family health by offering benefits ranging from free flu vaccines to weight loss challenges and healthier food options.

A&E extends its goodwill beyond the factories and into the communities in which it operates. The companies global humanitarian efforts include: donating "waste thread" to local artists and businesses who repair clothing in Costa Rica; initiating training in the Dominican Republic to reduce the trend of violence against women, and participating in blood drives, school fundraisers and other educational, health and eco-friendly community initiatives in the United States.
