China's textile machinery imports increase in Jan-May'14

The imports of textile machinery by China increased by 8.22 percent year-on-year to US$ 1.873 billion in the first five months of the current year, according to customs statistics.

Category-wise, chemical fibre machinery imports surged by 37.75 percent year-on-year to $496 million, accounting for 26.47 of total textile machinery imports made by China during the five-month period.

From January to May 2014, China imported textile machinery from 53 countries and regions. Of these, only five countries—Germany, Japan, Italy, Belgium and Taiwan—accounted for nearly 85 percent or $1.587 billion worth of machinery.

Chinese textile machinery imports from Germany stood at $639 million, increasing at 10.49 percent year-on-year. Of this, chemical fibre machinery was valued at $275 million, up 44.95 percent.

Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian and Shandong were the top five provinces in terms of textile machinery imports. These provinces together accounted for 80.93 percent of total textile machinery imports by China during the period under review. Jiangsu topped the list with imports worth $623 million, up 16.88 percent, accounting for 33.24 percent of all textile machinery imports by China.
