A line-up of industry leaders revealed innovations in inkjet technology for industrial markets to more than 300 attendees at the recently concluded ‘The Inkjet Conference’ which was held from September 30 to October 1, 2014 in Germany.

“Fast-paced developments in inkjet printing technology are opening traditional industrial applications to digital printing such as packaging, textile, plastics and many more,” said European Specialist Printing Manufacturer’s Association (ESMA), organisers of the conference.

The inkjet conference brought together industry and academic leaders in their fields to speak about the latest advances and future developments driving digital print and offered a great networking opportunity.

The two-day, multi-subject educational conference has been developed specifically for inkjet equipment manufacturers, included a focus on inkjet engineering and the placing of a million drops that will feature hardware and software aspects of equipment design and manufacture.

Areas touched upon included fluid systems, precision engineering, printheads, digital asset management, RIPs, colour calibration and workflow and a review on fluid and ink components such as nano particles, conductive, aqueous and UV inks.

The Inkjet Conference included an academic track open to all universities and non-commercial research institutes to present their work.

Among the presentations was one on ‘Membrane Pumps in Inkjet Printers – a success story’ from Andreas Hauri at KNF Flodos and on UV-LED Systems and Integration from Patrick Montali of PrintabLED.

Steve Liker from Trident spoke on Piezo Inkjet for Precision Dispensing of Functional Materials,
Frank De Voeght of Chemstream presented ‘ISystem Integration: an Ink Point of View’ while, Martin Kurtz at Balluff GmbH discussed - Improving Inkjet Industry by Implementing Intelligent Sensors’.

The subject of ‘Industrial Inkjet for Packaging- Beyond the Box’ was shared by Holly Steedman from Indujet GmbH and ‘Limitations and Benefits of Industrial Inkjet Printing’ came from John Corrall of Industrial Inkjet Limited.

Among academics, the iPrint Institute, University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland shared interesting facts on ‘Advanced Drop Watching’, while Department of Chemistry at University of Torino discussed ‘Carbon Nano-Forms Suspensions for Inkjet Printing Energy Applications’. (AR)
