More than 30 designers and a diverse group of New York-based industry experts are gearing up to partake in the upcoming inaugural edition of Hawaiian style showcase HONOLULU Fashion Week.

Slated to take place from November 6 to 9, 2014, the high on fashion and glam event will be jointly organized by HONOLULU Magazine, Japan Fashion Week Organization, Hawaii Fashion Incubator, and the Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.

While speaking on the event, the HONOLULU Magazine publisher, Alyson Helwagen, says, “Fashion has been a part of the Hawaiian culture for years. Our rich heritage has influenced not only the designers that reside in the islands but also those designs seen on international runways this past spring.”

“We couldn’t be happier to champion our influence on the industry with this event that would not be possible without our many partners and sponsors, who are helping to catapult Hawaii’s own fashion industry into an international spotlight,” she adds.

The four-day-long event will be opened with a runway show titled ‘Live Aloha’ which will display an exclusive collaborative line between the Hawaii-bred designer Sig Zane and the New York-based surfwear and menswear specialist Saturdays Surf NYC.

The home-grown interior decorator Kaypee Soh will debut as a fashion designer with his first-ever womenswear apparel collection, which will include three 1960’s inspired cute capes and minidresses in a bold palette of red, teals, pink and yellow.

The swimwear brand Issa de Mar’s designers Marissa Eveland and Melissa Jasniy will feature their Tribe collection at the event. Replete with removable pads and straps as well as adjustable and reversible styles, the shocking berry pink, classic black, pristine white, bright yellow and perky mint based bikini and one-piece line is enhanced with ethnic prints inspired by Chinle art, kaleidoscope, ikat, African and Southwest Native American patterns.

The designer line-up also includes names like Allison Izu, Ari South, Cameron Hawaii, Florencia Arias, Tiare Hawaii, Reyn Spooner, Salvage Public, Amos Kotomori, In4mation, Iolani Sportswear, Jams World, Manuheali?i, Roberta Oaks, Issa de'Mar, Posh Pua, Tiffany Chou, A. Wattz Designz, Bliss Lau, Kai Ea, LK Atelier, Ecolicious, Jana Lam and Meleana.

In addition to the aforementioned runway designer showcases, pop-up boutiques, featuring limited edition designs from local talents like the Ink and Tailor brand’s designer duo Maya von Geldern and K'era Morgan who will sell a spring/summer line of soft silk-blend scarves emblazoned with nature-inspired prints and images of the beautiful island, will also be hosted on the sidelines of the event.

Founded in 1888, HONOLULU Magazine is the only paid-circulation city magazine in the state of Hawai’i which covers topics related to fashion, dining, education and healthcare. (PB)
