The South African Department of Trade and Industry (dti) is currently formulating South Africa's new National Export Strategy.
It is crucial for all stakeholders in the economy, including private enterprises, NGOs and academics, to give their input and continue to interact with the dti in order to ensure that the envisaged policy is in line with the distinct needs of South Africa and that the goals contained therein are implemented in a manner fulfilling such needs.
To this end, the dti is co-hosting a National Export Strategy Design and Management Workshop from 10-13 May 2006 in Durban in order to train and familiarize local and regional officials and stakeholders on the design and implementation of export strategies.
This is significant because of the central role that regional integration is likely to play in South Africa's export strategy.
It is of critical importance to follow events such as these and monitor the debates, lessons and ideas generated in order to be up to date with and possibly influence national and regional policies.
