Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius has welcomed a cooperation agreement signed between the Lithuanian Apparel and Textile Industry Association and the state research institute - Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology.

Butkevicius comments came during a recent visit to Vilnius' apparel and textile companies Audejas and Lelija. The prime minister and representatives of apparel and textile sector discussed promotion of export, training of specialists and other relevant issues.

“I welcome the move and am sure that it will significantly contribute towards innovative solutions in the industry and that with the help of top scientists in the country Lithuanian companies will successfully compete in the international market,” the Lithuanian government website quoted the prime minister as saying.

The meeting also addressed matters relevant to the industry. Members of the presidium of the Lithuanian Apparel and Textile Industry Association noted that this sector exports nearly 90 percent of its production and therefore, new export opportunities must be explored.

According to Euratex, the European Apparel and Textile Organisation, Lithuania was among the top three fastest growing apparel and textile producers in 2014.
