Berges adopts Miller Weldmaster machine to seam awnings

Fabrics seaming machines producer Miller Weldmaster has helped an awnings manufacturer, Berges Trenton Awning to progress from stitching awnings to seaming them.

Berges manufactured awnings by sewing the overlapped fabric to create the body and side-wing panels, but disliked the railroad pattern of the double needle stitch.

“After speaking with a Miller Weldmaster representative, the company decided to transition from sewing to seaming for their awnings,” a Miller Weldmaster press release said.

Seaming is a welding process that joins two material edges together and has a far smoother look than sewn materials might.

“Not only that, but seaming can provide a stronger bond than some sewing techniques,” Miller Weldmaster added in the press release.

“Miller Weldmaster wanted to help us find the right solution for our business, and they worked with us all the way through the sale,” said Nate Berges.

“We really appreciated that we could talk to somebody who was knowledgeable about the products and who was truly interested in advancing our company,” Berges too added.

The benefits of seaming instead of stitching meant Berges personnel spent less time making repairs to customer awnings as the number of year-end repairs went from 100 to 30.

Customers reported fewer leaks in the awnings that used the seaming technique, as the welded seam replaced perforations from double-needle sewing.

Miller Weldmaster offers welding machines for many industries including awnings for pools, ducting, filtration, tarps, tarpaulins and more.

Miller Weldmaster, offers industrial fabric welding solutions like rotary hot air, hot wedge, and impulse welding equipment to the industrial fabric and thermoplastics industries.

Miller Weldmaster is a recipient of the President’s 2013 ‘E’ Award for Excellence in Exporting and a 2014 IFF Innovation Award winner.

Miller Weldmaster has developed many of the first advancements in heat sealing technology for the fabrication and automation of various products from awnings to truck tarpaulins and even inflatable boats.

It has installed its machines in over 100 countries around the world, has distributors in 20 countries and is headquartered in Ohio, US. (AR)
