Christmas discounts lower prices of clothing & footwear

Lower prices of clothing and footwear pushed the inflation rate down by 0.1 of a percentage point.
This year annual inflation higher than last year In contrast to 2005, when the inflation rate in Slovenia fell to the European level and stopped at 2.3%, at the end of this year the annual inflation rate was slightly higher (at 2.8%), while the average price growth was 2.5%.
Nevertheless, in some groups price trends were still high above the average. Prices in the following groups grew more than the annual inflation rate: furnishing, household equipment and maintenance (by 5.3%), miscellaneous goods and services (by 5%), and clothing and footwear (by 3.4%).
As in 2005, in 2006 too prices of services grew faster than prices of goods. Compared to December 2005, services were on average 4.3% more expensive, while prices of goods increased by 2.1%. Among goods, in one year prices of non-durable goods rose the most (by 3%), followed by prices of semi-durable goods, which increased by 2.4%. On the other hand, durable goods were 2% cheaper than a year ago.
The biggest impact on the total growth of prices in 2006 was that of furnishing, household equipment and maintenance and miscellaneous goods and services (0.31 p.p.) and clothing and footwear (0.28 p.p.).
