Aditya Birla Group's subsidiary Grasim Industries Limited is planning to introduce its third generation viscose fibre termed 'Excel' in February 2007.

Sources informed that trial production of the new fibre is underway at Grasim's Nagda viscose fibre unit in Madhya Pradesh. Plant's daily output of Excel fibre is expected to be around 10-12 tons in the initial phase.

Excel will become the premium cellulose fibre used for making high-end garments like denim fabrics and shirting.

Company is trying to expand fibre production capacity per day of Kharach unit from 175 tons currently to 350 tons within March 2008. It could penetrate non-woven textile sector also.

Tirupur witnessed the launch of a fabric design studio of Birla Cellulose on January 6, 2007. This studio will collect samples of different viscose fibre based fabrics and apparel.

With the purpose of improving local textile sector's competitiveness, Birla Cellulose established a textile research and application development centre at Kharach with an investment of Rs350 million.
