People in Delhi are experiencing the magical weaves at a four-day exhibition, "Kachchism", which will continue till January 14 at Chinmaya Hall, Lodhi Road.
The exhibition is organized by Khamir, a craft resources centre in Bhuj, and Dastkar, a Delhi-based NGO. The organizer's effort to provide an opportunity for the ethnic weavers to display and market their creations in Delhi proved to be successful.
The cerulean blue in sheep-wool carpets and in stoles splashed with fish motifs is very eye-catching. The quilts made from a combination of traditional weaves must prove very cosy during the frosty winter in Delhi.
Most of the artisans have experimented with fabrics, colours and weaving techniques this time. They are inspired by the students of the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad, who wander into the weavers' homes and gives suggestions of improvement.
