'Vibrant' Gujarat well poised in nonwoven & technical textiles sector

Neil S Bagchi from US Attorneys At Law firm - Kennedy Covington, made a presentation on 'Possible Indo-US Business Collaboration' during the course of the interaction. He appraised on how to explore the business opportunities and delved in to the corporate and legal affairs of setting up joint ventures with US Partners.
There was a power-point presentation by Avinash Mayekar, General Manager (Operations), Technopak Advisors Pvt Ltd, India, highlighting application areas and market potential on the Global and Indian nonwoven and technical textile horizons.
One of the pioneer-entrepreneur in non-woven and technical textiles from India, Mohan Kavrie, Managing Director, Supreme Nonwovens Pvt Ltd, who has established the first commercial plant in the Gujarat at Vapi said that entrepreneurs with passion, innovation and poise will see a profitable business opportunity as the industry is set to take off in a big way.
Currently, India is a net importer of nonwovens and technical textiles, however, market size for 2005 was estimated at US $5-6 billion and is expected to reach $12.4 billion mark by 2010.
There is a growing demand for baby diapers, incontinence products, sanitary napkins, wipes, medical and surgical bandages, waddings, interlinings, coverstocks, shoe linings, filters, upholstery, blankets, geotextiles, floorcoverings, automotive trims and linings etc.
The panel of experts handled several queries and apprehensions raised by the audience on nonwoven and technical textiles, particularly those on adoption of technology and marketing issues.
