The Egyptian Propylene & Polypropylene company (EPPC), under the guidance of the Oriental Weavers Group, assigned Uhde the ready for occupancy establishment of a Petrochemiekomplexes in haven Said, approximately 170 kilometers northeast from Cairo.
The complex consists of propylene and a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of in each case 350,000 tons and contains all pertinent auxiliary and offsites, among them a liquid air separation and a refrigerant plant as well as the necessary fuel depots.
The contract was signed at the end of of 2006 in presence of the Egyptian prime minister Dr. Ahmed Nazif and the Egyptian Minister for oil, Sameh Fahmy, in Cairo and covers license, basic and detail engineering, supply of the equipment, the building and assembly as well as the training of the personnel and start-up. EPPC invests approximately 680 millions US \ $ in the new Petrochemiekomplex. The completion is planned for at the end of of 2009. As raw material propane from Egyptian Erdgasvorkommen is used.
“First use we our own star procedure for the industrial production of propylene from propane. Thus the commercial break-through for our new propane dehydrogenation technology succeeded to us, still in addition in the process chain with polypropylene as final product - a further proof for our high technological authority”, underlines Klaus of cutter, chairman of the Uhde management, the meaning of the new large order for Uhde.
Uhdes promising Steam Active Reforming (STAR) - procedure for the dehydrogenation of light hydrocarbons, like propane to propylene or butane to Butylen, is based on conventional Steam Reforming technology and an oxidation reactor downstream (Oxyreaktor) under employment of a special dehydrogenation catalyst.
In the area Steam Reforming has Uhde over decades long experiences also 60 installed Reformern of own technology. A similar design of the Oxyreaktors was already used successfully in over 40 ammonia plants by Uhde. The conventional star procedure had acquired and thereafter had developed further Uhde 1999 of the US-American enterprise Phillips petroleum.
