Museum of Contemporary Handicrafts, first one of its kind in Iran, was inaugurated on January 20, 2007 at Sa'dabad Palace located in northern Tehran.
Mostafa Qassemi, Deputy Director, Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicraft Organization (CHTHO), was present during the opening ceremony. He opined that artists should take inspiration from the museum.
More than 1,300 works in categories including textiles, ceramics, pottery, glassware, wood etc, are exhibited at the two storey museum which occupies 1,800 square meters of land area.
According to Qassemi, Iranian handicrafts are vital for bringing in tourists to the country. CHTHO has plans of setting up handicraft museums in other provinces too.
