To increase cotton production from 300,000 tons to 1 million tons in next five years, Federal Government has already made arrangements to increase cotton production.

In order to achieve set targets, Government is planning to invest NGN 20 billion to buy chemicals for cotton farming.

Even for sick textile units, Government is going to grant NGN 50 billion for generation of employment.

In 24 states, President Olusegun Obasanjo has started public-private partnership in cotton production, last year.

Farmers can also expect other subsidies to increase cotton production in the country.

About 250,000 farmers are engaged in cotton farming and 30,000 workers are employed in textile and garment industry.
