Chamber Vice President for Labor, Immigration, and Employee Benefits Randel K. Johnson issued the following statement on President Bush's plan for comprehensive immigration reform:
"President Bush has demonstrated real leadership by underscoring the need for comprehensive immigration reform. He has offered a commonsense plan that appropriately stresses security while recognizing the indispensable role immigrants play in our society and economy.
And, he has stretched his hand across the aisle and expressed a strong desire to quickly forge a consensus that is in the best interests of our country.
"The Chamber strongly supports fixing our broken immigration system to facilitate a sustainable workforce for the American economy while ensuring our national security and prosperity. We look forward to working with President Bush and the new Congress to aggressively move the ball across the finish line.
"The blueprint for a workable system is on the table. It's time to get the job done."
