Italian apparel sales data for September showed a moderate rise in nominal value, compared to the same month in 2005 according to ISTAT.
The September rate follows a stronger rise in August and another moderate rise in July. Apparel retail sales for January-September 2006 also increased moderately in nominal value, compared with January-September 2005.
According to ISTAT the textile and apparel sectors continue to be among the weakest performers. While the apparel turnover index dipped in September, the textile and apparel order index did show some marginal improvement compared with January-September 2005.
Italy's wool fabric exports have declined by both value and volume for January-June 2006. Woolen fabric exports fell by volume and value during the same period, compared with January-June 2005. However, worsted fabric exports were higher by both volume and value.
The average price for woolen fabric rose slightly in January-June 2006 compared to the same period the year earlier, whilst that of worsteds fell. The majority of Italy's woolen fabric exports tend to be in the 300 to 450g/m2 weight categories, typically of wool rich blends with man-made fibre.
