Maharashtra likely to adopt Gujarat's cotton marketing model

Encouraged by Gujarat's success in marketing cotton, Maharashtra Government is contemplating adopting the likelihood of implementing the Gujarat model to market cotton in Maharashtra.

A high-level delegation was highly impressed and encouraged by the cotton scenario during its recent visit to get acqainted with marketing of cotton in Gujarat. It was headed by N B Patil, Principal Secretary (Agriculture), Government of Maharashtra.

Kishore Shah, Honorary Secretary, Central Gujarat Cotton Dealers' Association (CGCDA) informed that the delegation may ask for Gujarat's help to implement the cotton marketing model.

Total cotton processing capacity of Maharashtra is 55 to 60 lakh bales per annum compared to 2 crore bales of Gujarat. This difference is the main impediment in the marketing of cotton in Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra delegation visited and held discussions with All Gujarat Cotton Ginning and Pressing Factory Association President Dilip Patel and Former Minister for Finance, Gujarat Government, Sanat Mehta to apprise themselves with cotton scenario of Gujarat.
