European Commission (EC) has rejected several proposals to bar the import of seal fur products from Canada in Europe, explaining that the law against the seal pup fur 'provides adequate response'.
These appeals were an attempt by the activists to discourage annual seal hunt in Canada.
However, EC assured that it would take all the necessary steps to study and understand proper hunting standards for seals and if required, take actions.
EU is the biggest consumer of seal fur products and it has become crucial to impose appropriate measures to stop inhumane killing practices of these poor creatures.
