Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan released the brand logo `Golden Yarn of God's Own Country' of Kerala's coir products at a function at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, to launch a marketing initiative to boost the sick coir industry.

The marketing initiative was amongst a series of measures undertaken by Government to save the coir industry, which employed more than four lakh rural workers in the State, he said.

On the occasion of the release of the logo, Minister for Civil Supplies C. Divakaran inaugurated the exhibition of coir products at the VJT Hall which will be held till January 31st.

Presiding over the function, Minister for Coir G. Sudhakaran, praised the retted golden coir fibre of Kerala which was qualitatively far better than the brown fibre used elsewhere.

The State's coir products though superior in texture and durability suffered due to lack of marketing initiatives.

The Government, to boost export of coir products to around Rs.1,500 crore was in the process of strengthening quality control system along with the branding process, he said.
