Demand for automotive textiles to soar by 2010

According to the Ministry of Transportation, automotive textiles is making waves in China and is attracting more and more consumers.
The survey shows that the sales volume of China's automobile textiles grows by 15-20 percent annually. Domestic production of automotive textiles cannot meet the needs of rapid growth of automotive textiles in automobile industry. The great market gap should be filled by large amount of imports from abroad. Annual imports are estimated at about US $4 billion.
China has more than hundred types of vehicles. From 1995 to date, demand of automotive textiles increase every year. However, domestic production is still far from the increasing demand of auto industry.
National Automobile industry required about 62.5 million square meters of nonwovens in 2006, but domestic production could only supply about 50 percent.
Demand for auto carpet was about 12 million square meters, but domestic production could only meet 10 percent.
Demand of automobile seat textiles was about 1.3 million square meters, but domestic production could only satisfy about 30 percent.
Demand of automobile shade cloth exceeded 140,000 tons, while domestic output could only fulfill 80,000 tons.
There is also demand for vehicle shade covers for open-air car parks. So the yearly increasing demand of automotive textiles has brought a huge developing space for nonwoven industry.
Statistics show that overall China will need atleast 267,300 tons of automotive textiles by 2010.
