Out of total non-oil exports, handicrafts and hand-woven rugs account for seven percent, sources informed.
During first nine months of current year (Iranian year ends March 20, 2007), kelims and hand-woven rugs accounted for most of the handicraft exports of the country.
During this period, precious stones, earthen ware and leather goods exports followed hand-woven rugs in the list of items exported from the country.
Government's measures to enhance the quality of raw material are expected to boost exports of the goods.
Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization is planning to establish data bank to provide information on latest trend in handicrafts and on major issues in production and exports.
