Open university to introduce course in carpet weaving

Looking at challenges faced by Indian carpet industry at international level, Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) plans to provide training in carpet weaving.
This month a course in carpet textile and technology has been started for weavers of the region by the university.
Due to lack of knowledge and untrained manpower it has become difficult for carpet industry to compete with other countries.
As a step towards this direction a certificate course in carpet textile and technology will be offered under Centre for Excellence programme of the varsity, informed UPRTOU Vice-Chancellor Prof KNS Yadava.
Prof Yadava said open varsity aims to help train candidates and has established its advance training centre in Bhadohi, the renowned carpet city of the world, said Prof Yadava.
The course will introduce untrained workers to technology required to weave carpet and work in textile industry with focus on various design of carpets, technical details and experienced faculty to help candidates to develop these skills, Prof Yadava said.
The minimum duration of the course is six months and maximum one year with minimum eligibility being a pass in class VIII and attain 14 years of age, however candidates with five years experience in carpet industry would be offered relaxation in educational eligibility, Prof Yadava informed.
