Efforts on to promote khadi industry

Jan '07
Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar exhorted people, especially youths to wear khadi clothes as promotion of khadi is essential to eradicate unemployment and empower rural women and thereby help promote khadi industry.

He was speaking after inaugurating State-level Khadi and Handicraft Exhibition organised as part of the Khadi Suvarna Mahotsava celebrations.

Pressure will be exerted on government to buy at least ten percent khadi from Karnataka Khadi Gramodyog Cooperative Sangh, Hubli in order to supply uniforms of school children and other government department staff, he informed.

Houses for employees working in khadi industry under Ashraya Housing Scheme will be sanctioned and proposal for salary grant is pending before government.

MLC A M Hindasageri reminded that foreigners visiting India do get attracted to khadi clothes whereas Indians have forgotten value of khadi.
