Integrated Handloom Cluster Development (IHCD) scheme may get delayed as handloom producers, majority of them master weavers, have failed to arrive at a consensus here on Monday, putting the scheme in cold storage.
Central and State departments of Jute and Handlooms had announced the IHCD scheme in October last year for development and promotion of the welfare of handloom workers in non-cooperative sector for which a consensus among handloom cloth producers was important.
IHCD scheme was to be implemented by Central Government in six places all over the country, with Pochampalli and Chirala getting selected in Andhra Pradesh, officials of Handlooms Department informed.
The programme to cost Rs 2 crore for each centre includes training for handloom workers in modern designing, colour dyeing, weaving and marketing techniques besides supplying hank yarn at subsidized rates to the weavers.
The IHCD scheme would be beneficial to about 5000 handloom workers at each IHCD centre, they added.
