Initial success due to formation of self help group (SHG) experienced by women of Gudvella Block has prompted tribal women of Tebdamunda in Orissa's Bolangir District to emulate them.
They formed a group of 10 women saree weavers in 2001 which has helped them to weave a great sucess story.
Laxmi Meher, a member of the group informed that they deposited money in Sahakari Bank every month which helped them to buy looms and start working.
Saudamini Mishra, supervisor of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) inspired the women to form a group and arranged for bank to advance loan of Rs22000.
The loan amount has now been fully paid up by this group, said Mishra.
Government helped them by granting aid of Rs5000 to set up a handloom unit through which they made quality sarees to sell them in nearby village markets.
The women decided to deposit Rs100 per member in Tushra Central Sahakari Bank today has which has amounted to Rs12000.
They have bought six weaving machines and a thread rolling machine.
Through collective efforts the tribal women have been able to achieve a better standard of living and also educate their children.
