MOT urges footwear sector to increase stock of raw materials

Ministry of Trade (MOT) urges footwear industry to increase imports of raw materials for first two months of 2007 as there was decline in its prices.
According to industry experts, import prices of tanned leather, shoe fabric and shoe sole were down and this trend is expected to prevail till March.
Since mid January 2007, import price of tanned cowhide declined from 0.8 to 2.5 percent compared to December 2006. Average import price of this material from China was around US $1.7 per square feet and $2.02 per square feet from Korea.
Similarly, price of leatherette fabric was at $2.7 to $3.1 per yard from China and $4.5 to 5.2 per yard from Korea.
