Superior cotton variety lures Chinese delegation to Gujarat

Inspired by usefulness of Sankar-6 variety of cotton grown in Gujarat, a delegation from China is currently on a visit to Gujarat to study cotton cultivation and ginning facilities here. The delegation is led by Zhou Jiandong, leader of Jiangsu province Textile Ministry of China.
After a three day visit to Kapadvanj, Himmatnagar and Kadi, the delegation concluded that Gujarat has great potential for bilateral business due to availability of quality raw material. Chinese textile companies may also consider setting up a unit in Gujarat.
The delegation was of the view that ATIRA should be involved in testing and identifying cotton so as to have improved standard of quality cotton from Gujarat by further removing contamination.
Gujarat contributes substantially to India's cotton exports. Of the 43 lakh bales exported last year 30 lakh bales were from Gujarat which is set to reach to 45lakh bales of the total 65 lakh bales likely to be exported this year, informed Ranjeet Singh Dhillon, President, Gujarat Import Export (P) ltd.
Besides Jiandong, Board Chairman of seven textile companies in China, Zhou Yuan, General Manager of Jiangsu Shuyi textile Co. Ltd, Jiang Shipei, Vice Manager of Ningbo Bros Textile Co. and Ms Huang qiong Manager of their Indian tour, were the other dignitaries in the delegation.
