The Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed by people of Pakistan on Monday where the exquisite works of Kashmiri artisans were displayed in an exhibition of Kashmiri arts and crafts.
Papier mache expert Syed Afzal showcased his creation here. In this craft involves paper pulp. Various forms and shapes of moulds were used to create these vases. A variety of ornamented with hand-painted birds, flowers and animal motifs created by him were presented.
The traditional 'Gabba' by Mukhtar Ahmed Dar has also pulled crowd. It is a tedious and time consuming craft of producing exquisite rugs and wall hangings through the use of a needle called 'Aar' on jute matting or old woollen blankets.
The chain stitch embroidery depicts huntings, weddings, celebrations, rural life and floral patterns.
Another artisan from Kashmir Qazi Ali Muhammad who is now the resident of Pakistan is a specialist in making rugs from sheep fleece.
His craft, called 'Namda' is admired in Balochistan and Sindh. These Kashmiri 'Namdas' are mainly white in colour made with wool, generously ornated with chain stitch embroidery of floral, geometric or animal designs.
This exhibition will give the people of Pakistan to take a look of Kashmiri art and craft.
