Knitwear in casual market enjoyed good consumer response this A/W

In Korea, consumer sentiment remained below the benchmark at the end of 2000 and has not deteriorated further. Sentiment, although marginally improved compared to the third quarter, is expected to remain at the current level during the first half of 2007, affected by a downturn in income even though unemployment is at 3 year lows.

Department store sales data by NSO (all products) pointed a severe decline in October in Korea, down 7% year-on-year. In November, anecdotal reports by retailers and apparel brands suggested that the slump continued in the apparel markets, particularly in the area of men's suits and women's formal apparel.

In the overall depressed market, alpaca coats and cashmere knitwear in the casual market enjoyed good consumer response this Autumn/Winter season.

Also, newly emerging retail formats such as large-scale mart and discount store chains, and on-line shopping are growing rapidly, competing for market share from traditional department stores.
