Govt takes steps to uplift textile Industry

In a meeting arranged by Member of National Assembley of Pakistan on Thursday, the Minister for Textiles, Mushtaq Ahmed Cheema said that the Government is putting efforts to make the textile sector more effective and competitive in the international market.

Some prominent members like Muhammad Pervez Malik, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Yasmeen Rehman, Abid Sher Ali and Sradar Ayaz Sadiq were also present in the meeting.

Minister informed that the export of textiles has increased during last few years, inspite of tough competition in the international market.

According to Mustaq Cheema a Ministerial Committee has been formed to improve the performance of the industrial sector.

Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has taken decision to provide gas to textile sector on cheaper rates.

Polyester has been included in the Duty and Tax Remission on Export (DTRE), Sales Tax been reduced from 15 per cent to two percent, income tax reduced to one percent and import duty on textile machinery has also been reduced.

Government has formed a Skill Development Board. Big industrial units are to be declared as training institutes to improve the quality of work.

The textile minister was optimistic that with these steps the industry will sure improve its status in the world market.
