The income-tax (I-T) department officials carried out searches at over 60 premises including the premises of three Surat-based textile processing houses located at Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi at 8.30 A.M. on Thursday.
The entire operation is termed massive and is likely to continue for couple of days, a senior I-T official informed. Searches began at 46 places at the same time which included three process houses in Pandesara, Surat, seven premises in Kolkata, five in Indore and one each in Delhi and Mumbai, officials said.
Preliminary investigations have thrown up the possibilities of clumsy financial transactions carried out by these textile processing houses.
In depth probe to uncover the extent and amount of unaccounted deals has been put into motion, informed an I-T official.
Sources in the textile industry indicated that the ongoing investigations may lead to disclosure of several crore of rupees of unaccounted wealth.
