Australian wool features at outdoor show

The United States is now Woolmark's biggest market for Sportwool. And at the recent giant US leisure and lifestyle trade show, Outdoor Retailer, Sportwool made an impressive contribution by focusing on key industry customers and contacts through presentations, discussions and meetings.

“If we can continue to influence fabric preferences in the areas of golf, team sport and outdoor leisurewear sectors in the huge North American market, Sportwool's profile will only grow,” explains Executive Director, the Woolmark Company, Brenda McGahan.

Held annually in January, the 2007 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market hosted some 815 exhibitors and nearly 18,000 visitors, showcasing apparel, accessories and footwear which emphasised themes like 'green, natural, sustainable and eco-friendly'.

“Outdoor Retailer is one of the foremost shows of its kind in the world,” says Brenda. “Not only does it influence the global retail buyers' market, but industry looks to exhibitors for new directions in product innovation and development.”

For the first time in Outdoor Retailer's history, a number of Australian fabric suppliers brought product ranges to show including DPK Textiles showcasing their wool knits; Melba Textiles and ABMT featured their fabric collections in 100% wool. Continuum Textiles' wool jersey range, iMerino continued their support of the fair.

“Feedback from industry, media and customers at Outdoor Retailer to Australian Merino wool generally and Sportwool in particular was overwhelmingly positive,” adds Brenda McGahan. “Customers are looking for products that look great but also products they can feel good about buying. Industry understands this and is embracing wool wholeheartedly.”
