A six months training programme on bamboo crafts organised by Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage under the sponsorship of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, New Delhi, today got underway at Kwakeithel Bazar.

Manipur has 52 different varieties of bamboo and prospect of self-employment by producing bamboo based quality handicraft products was bright, the Chief Guest of the function, District Youth Affairs and Sports Officer, Imphal West, RK Chitrajit, informed.

There were many welfare schemes available for providing source of income to educated youths, under the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, RK Chitrajit said.

Youths have been unable to use funds made available specifically for welfare of youths by the Government, due to their tendency to earn easy money and lack of professionalism.
