Possibilities of a gem and jewellery park coming up in the city looks bright with moves afoot by gems and jewellery manufacturers as well as bullion traders to resolve issues for its establishment.
Gems and jewellery park in the city could benefit jewellers, bullion traders and diamond polishing units in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and North Gujarat, industry sources say.
Rajkot is known for gold jewellery manufacturing, while Ahmedabad has gems and jewellery markets as well as diamond cutting and polishing units.
Establishment of a 'Jewellery Trade Centre' in Ahmedabad is also on the cards for domestic as well as foreign buyers to buy these precious commodities from the city itself.
In terms of infrastructure facilities, Ahmedabad has the advantage of international airport and better road connectivity and the proposed jewellery park would help players in Rajkot, North-Gujarat and Ahmedabad.
Industry players are in talks with state industry department for the jewellery park whereas investment and location modalities are under consideration, sources said.
