JK Cotton Mill was closed down 17 years back, due to which some hundred workers became redundant. In these 17 years, many employees died and others have been striving to earn their livelihood.

Mill workers marched a rally yesterday demanding the factory to be restarted. They assembled at Shikshak Park in Naveen Market, then they started the procession under the name 'Subash Brigade'.

They went to the District Magistrate's residence. A memorandum demanding the factory's reopening, which is addressed to the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister, was submitted by Brigade President Dileep Singh to a senior official of district administration.

Board for Industrial Finance and Reconstruction (BIFR) had approved a revival package for the factory in 2002, which is still on paper only.

Labourers also demanded payment of their pending dues, adding that factory's management should give VRS facility to employees if they do not reopen the unit.
