According to the latest China Textile Industry Association report, for January-December 2006 period, total value of textile and clothing imports and exports, amounted to US $165.136 billion, an increase of 22.66 percent over the previous year. Figure accounts for 9.38 percent of the total value of imports and exports, resulting in a trade surplus of $129.034 billion.
In 2006, China's textile and clothing import and export value accounted for 9.38 percent of the total value of China's imports and exports.
Textiles and clothing export value was $147.085 billion. Among them, textile exports earned $52.254 billion, an increase of 18.84 percent. Garment export value was $94.83 billion, an increase of 28.91 percent.
Textile and clothing import value amounted to $18.051 billion. Among them, textile imports registered $16.354 billion, an increase of 5.58 percent. Clothing imports stood for $1.697 billion, an increase of 5.50 percent.
In the major export countries and regions of China's textile and clothing, the US ranked first, followed by Japan and Hong Kong.
China's exports to the US attained $23.126 billion, up 18.14 percent over last year.
Exports to Japan earned $19.524 billion, an increase of 7.85 percent.
Exports to Hong Kong obtained $17.989 billion, rising 21.19 percent from the previous year.
The amount of exports to US, Japan and Hong Kong together formed $60.639 billion, accounting for 41.23 percent of the total textile and garment exports.
From January to December 2006, China's exports to EU amounted to $22.952 billion, a year-on-year increase of 21.68 percent.
In the major import countries and regions, the top three were Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. From January to December 2006, China's imports of textile and apparel from the top three were $3.302 billion (down 1.77 percent), $3.236 billion (up 0.77 percent) and $2.575 billion (down 2.12 percent), respectively, from the previous year.
