To promote large-scale production of tussar, Jharkhand plans to introduce two varieties of special silk saris in the market.

The two varieties of special silk saris, Anjana and Swarnarekha, will be introduced in the markets by May, informed K.K Dutta, Managing Director Jharkhand Silk Textile and Handicraft Corporation Limited (JSTHCL).

The production of these saris will be a joint venture of JSTHCL and Kharsawa Development Board.

Tussar silk, procured from a fully-matured worm, is cultivated on a large-scale in Kharsawa district of Kuchai locality.

The state produces around 100 metric tons of silk.

The saris will be like Baluchari saris of Bankura district of West Bengal and tribal people will be involved in production of Anjana and Swarnarekha saris, said Dutta.

Traditional prints showing tribal dances, and tribal musical instruments will be designed on the sari, reflecting culture of the state priced around Rs.2,500-3,500.

The Central Silk Board will be providing Rs.3 billion during next five years as financial aid to Jharkhand to increase its silk production.
